'' EVANESCENCE Drummer's SOUL EMBRACED Resurrected
SOUL EMBRACED, the Little Rock, Arkansas-based band featuring EVANESCENCE drummer William "Rocky" Gray, has apparently regrouped and is planning on releasing new material soon. They have also added two new members in the form of Jack Wiese (guitar) and Jeff Bowie (bass). A new band photo can be seen on their MySpace page.
Originally a side project of drummer David Sroczynski and William "Rocky" Gray from SHREDDED CORPSE, SOUL EMBRACED dissolved after creating one song for a metal compilation. Rocky would reform the band with fellow LIVING SACRIFICE member and Christian metal legend Lance Garvin (drums) and his brother in-law Chad Moore (vocals). When Rocky and Lance weren't busy with LIVING SACRIFICE, they would hammer away at making material for their death metal side project. The band released an EP (1999's "The Fleshless" EP), and three albums (2000's "For The Incomplete", 2002's "This Is My Blood", and 2003's "Immune") over a five-year span. SOUL EMBRACED's debut album, "For the Incomplete", was re-released in 2003 by the independent label Blood and Ink Records. Since 2003, Rocky has been busy with EVANESCENCE as their drummer, and Chad is serving as Rocky's drum tech.

▲ In Gallery | ''After Facing Big Bad Wolf, Amy Lee Faces Herself In Evanescence Clip
HOLLYWOOD — Amy Lee is returning to the forest, only this time there's no Big Bad Wolf.
"There's the me in all white and it's really wintry," the Evanescence singer said on the set of the "Lithium" video on Wednesday, pointing to an elaborate array of snow-covered trees. "And then there's the all-in-black Amy under the surface of the water of this lake in the forest. So it's the happiness and the sorrow and we're almost singing to each other, trying to figure out how both of us can work."
Unlike the Little Red Riding Hood concept for the "Call Me When You're Sober" video, which was an abstract take on somewhat literal lyrics, the follow-up is a literal take on somewhat abstract lyrics.
"So it's not so in-your-face to make the video more literal," Lee justified of the video, which Paul Fedor (Sarah McLachlan, Seether) directed based on her concept. "Really, though, I think it's all about touching somebody and I hope it does that."
"Lithium," the second single from the recently released The Open Door, is about making the choice between the comfort of sorrow and the idea of happiness.
"You get in these cycles where you're stuck in bad situations or relationships or whatever and it's hard to make yourself get out even though it's negative and hard," Lee explained. "So that's sort of what it's about, breaking free."'' ► Read More Make sure to stay tuned for more updates about ''Lithium.'' It really is a BEAUTIFUL video! I had the opportunity of seeing the set stage live while recording—all Ev fans old and new will surely not be disappointed! ;) |

''Evanescence Guitarist: Filling Ben Moody's Shoes
Evanescence guitarist Terry Balsamo may appear to be riding a wave of success these days, particularly considering his band’s latest album The Open Door hit #1 on the Billboard charts and nearly hit the half-million sales mark in its first week. But the past year brought about a medical nightmare that any guitarist would deeply fear: a stroke paralyzing the left side of his body. Since the November 2005 event, Balsamo has had to retrain himself on the guitar and now says he is using the latest Evanescence tour as his physical therapy.
Despite the obstacles, former Cold guitarist Balsamo has been welcomed by vocalist Amy Lee and the rest of Evanescence as one of the primary songwriters, replacing former guitarist Ben Moody (co-writer of songs “My Immortal” and “Bring Me To Life”). Balsamo recently talked with Ultimate Guitar about filling the shoes of hit-maker Moody and his continued efforts to regain his musical abilities.
UG: You’ve been through a lot in the past year. How is your recovery going?
Terry: Yeah, I still have paralysis in my left arm and hand. I’m like at enough where I can get by on tour. Basically this tour is like therapy right now for me. I’m hoping it will get better, you know.
You are so young to have something like a stroke happen to you. Do they doctors know what caused it?
When I went in the hospital, my whole left side was paralyzed. All of my vitals were fine, my blood pressure and cholesterol and all that crap. So they had no idea what was going on. They had to do an MRI. When they did the MRI, the doctor came back in the room and he was like, “Have you ever had any neck injuries like from a car accident or anything?” And I was like, “No.” Then we were like, “Other than banging his head all day and every night for an hour and a half.” I’ve always had weird thing in my neck doing that, but I never would have thought it would have given me a stroke.
They think the headbanging is really what caused your stroke?
Yeah, they actually saw the clot in my artery in my neck.'' ► Read Full Story |

``'So much drama' for Evanescence singer
NEW YORK (AP) -- Every girl goes through it -- the messy task of emerging from her awkward teen years and navigating the complex waters of romance while figuring out what to be when she grows up.
But very few do it as publicly as Amy Lee of Little Rock, Arkansas, lead singer of the goth-rock band Evanescence.
Lee was just 19 when she signed her first record contract, and barely 21 when the band's major-label debut, "Fallen," flew up the charts in 2003. The album, co-written by Lee and (now ex-boyfriend) Ben Moody, connected with fans across the globe and netted the band two Grammy awards, including best new artist.
Its hard-driving mix of brooding, spiritually-tinged darkness and dramatic classical orchestration offered fans a window into Lee's psyche. Or so many of them thought.
"Everyone knows a lot about me without actually knowing me at all," says Lee, now 24.'' ► Read more |

''Evanescence Butcher The Killers In Battle For Billboard #1
Was three years just a little too long?
That was the question on the minds of several industry insiders last week when Evanescence released The Open Door, the follow-up to their 2003 breakout Fallen — an album that, to date, has sold close to 6.6 million copies in the U.S. alone. With artists like the Killers, Beck and Monica all releasing new discs on the same day that The Open Door landed in stores, some wondered whether Amy Lee's goth-rock outfit still had a strong enough fanbase to open up on top.
But the fans were there to clear a path for The Open Door to become the band's first chart-topping debut. With first-week sales of 447,000 plus, the #1 position on the Billboard albums chart was a lock for Evanescence, who outsold second-place finishers the Killers by more than 133,000 copies. The Open Door stacks up as the band's biggest debut, as Fallen opened at #7 with 142,000 copies sold, while 2004's live effort Anywhere But Home bowed at #39 with 54,000 scans.'' ► Read full article |

''Evanescence - The Song Remains The Same Evanescence, minus an original member, are back. The Open Door is Amy Lee's band's follow-up to the global hit Fallen, and the weight of expectation is heavy indeed.
We caught up with Lee and guitarist John Lecompt to discover what's changed, and what's stayed the same, since they shot to fame.
The biggest difference to their formative years, Amy says, is creative freedom. In short, it's glorious what a few extra greenbacks can do... Oops. I think I've created a rift between lead singer Amy Lee and guitarist John Lecompt. All because of one of my crazy questions: who's the ultimate female rock icon for you? "Janis Joplin," replied Amy, after some hesitation, allowing me to think it was a calculated response just because it seemed like the right thing to answer for a female rock star - an homage to the grandmother of today's young rock chicks, if you will.
But then John sounded his incredulity: "Oh no. I can't stand her voice." Amy: "You have to get past the grit and hear the passion." John: "Oh, I like grit. I just don't like her." Amy: "Fine, I don't like you!"'' ► Read More |

''An effervescent Evanescence ROBERT EVERETT-GREEN
There are two kinds of break-up album: the kiss-off to a lost flame, and the declaration of independence from a former creative partner. There's a bit of both in The Open Door, the second album from the massively successful gothic fusion band Evanescence.
There's the love-lies-bleeding aspect, in a couple of songs apparently prompted by singer Amy Lee's split from Shaun Morgan, lead singer of Seether. More importantly, perhaps, the disc is Lee's attempt to dispel the lingering shadow of Ben Moody, with whom she founded Evanescence in Arkansas 11 years ago.
Moody abruptly split from the band while on tour, six months after the 2003 release of its debut record, Fallen. That disc, which he had co-written with Lee, has since sold almost 14-million copies. Evanescence has become one of the biggest concert acts in rock, and Lee has emerged as the dominant female rock singer of her generation.
This speedy rise to fame and fortune seemed to take place in stealth mode, however, as the music press largely limited itself to questioning whether the band had any creative future without Moody.'' ► Read More |

''Rock's a hard place — ask Evanescence The band emerges from a turbulent period with singer Amy Lee in charge. By Ann Powers, Times Staff Writer
You might not immediately recognize Amy Lee's name, but you'd know her if she plummeted past you from the top floor of a tenement building. That's how anyone with basic cable first saw the singer for the band Evanescence, in the video for the song "Bring Me to Life": falling backward in slow motion, her hair unfolding like a long black veil as she headed for hard pavement below.
"Bring Me to Life," with its mix of voluptuous singing and metallic guitar (the latter steroidically enhanced by guest vocalist Paul McCoy's rap-rock declamations), began the groundswell that resulted in U.S. sales of nearly 7 million copies of "Fallen," Evanescence's 2003 Wind-Up Records debut. The song also set off a chain of associations that made Lee, whose band releases its latest album, "The Open Door," this week, the most successful uncool rock star of the last few years.'' ► Read More

''Evanescence practices in Stroudsburg en route to world tour MIKE SADOWSKI | Pocono Record Writer | September 30, 2006
The members of Evanescence are just like any other tourists in the Poconos.
They took a white-water trip down the Delaware River. They hit Flood's bar in downtown Stroudsburg.
They've even scheduled a trip to Camp NoBeBoSco in Blairstown, N.J., to check out the site where the slasher movie "Friday the 13th" was filmed.
In between holiday sightseeing, the band managed to spend most of the last few weeks in Stroudsburg's Sherman Theater rehearsing for their upcoming world tour to promote its new album, "The Open Door."
"This is like a vacation spot for us," Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee said Friday. "It's close by and out of the way."
The new album, which comes out Tuesday, is the band's follow-up to the 2003 six-time-platinum smash, "Fallen."
Lee called it a "more mature" departure from the group's first album.
"I'm excited for it, I think it's stronger than 'Fallen'," she said. "It's a better eclectic group of songs."'' ► Read More |

Amy stopped in for a visit with MuchMusic in Canada last week for a Coupla Questions. Click here to read the full story and see shots from MuchMusic.com!
''MuchMusic.com: I gather that there's a theme of control for you right now, like YOU are in control! That's obviously affected your album, but how has it affected your day to day life?
Amy: Well, I'm kind of going through this thing now where it's all about the album, so it doesn't feel like there's much of a difference to me in my everyday life. I am the leader. I'm doing tons of work right now. I don't do all the press by myself, on this little trip I'm the only one who came up because the guys are just chilling and practicing by themselves for a couple of days. But, you know, we make it a team effort. I think that's an important part of being a leader, including everyone.'' ► Read More |

''Evanescence Prep for Intimate Tour Posted Sep 28th 2006 6:05PM by Steve Baltin
Evanescence have a big week ahead, with the Oct. 3 release of 'The Open Door' and a tour kicking off two days later in Toronto. Frontwoman Amy Lee said Wednesday on a teleconference call that she can't wait.
"The past few months have just been promo, doing interviews, running around, and the fact that we're on the brink of going on tour and make music the focus again is really exciting," she says. While she admits she is a little anxious about returning to the stage after two years off, she feels the band will be ready.
"We're going into rehearsals in the country," she says.
Despite coming off the mega-platinum 'Fallen,' the band is starting smaller for its reintroduction to the stage, playing theaters and such. Lee says it'll make it an easier readjustment period before "the big scary arena tour" next year. She's looking forward to the more intimate shows as a chance to get close to fans, where the energy, she expects, will be "crazy."'' |

''Evanescence Give a Sobering Performance Posted Sep 20th 2006 6:13PM by M. Tye Comer
'Call Me When You're Sober,' the first single from Evanescence's forthcoming album 'The Open Door,' boasts all of the shredding guitars and banshee vocals you'd expect from the multi-platinum powerhouse. But when Amy Lee and the boys visited our Sessions studio last month, they proved that the song could be just as compelling (if not more so) with the volume turned way down. With just a piano, cello and guitar at their disposal, the band performed a haunting acoustic version of the track for our cameras, stripping it down to an ethereal essence that was as raw as the words Amy sings.
"The lyrics are so in your face, and that's really different for me. I'm usually hiding behind metaphors," says Amy, who penned the song about her failed relationship with Seether frontman Shaun Morgan. "But I don't think there's any way to avoid what that song is talking about, which I like. It makes me feel sort of, I don't know, brave and it helps me heal from a painful ending to a relationship." ► Read More ► Click here to visit AOL Music and watch 'Call Me When Your Sober' from the band's upcoming AOL Sessions. |

''Evanescence Talk About Their New Album by Andrew Tijs - September 12 2006
Amy Lee, raven-haired singer for Evanescence, has spoken about their new album, the loss of members and “the Christian thing”.
In an interview with Billboard, Lee discussed the trials and travails of working on their sophomore album ‘The Open Door’. Out in October, it follows up their 2003 multi-platinum debut ‘Fallen’.
Lee admits “It took longer than I thought. But, I am a perfectionist. We took all the time we needed and wrote and wrote and wrote. If it wasn't good, I threw it away. I wanted every piece of it to be as good as it possibly could be.”
She also spoke about the reconfigurations of the band since the first album. Bassist Will Boyd and Lee’s songwriting partner Ben Moody are gone. Lee said, “Without (Moody), it wasn't like I was thinking, "Oh, my God, what am I going to do?" It really had gotten to the point where it was so horrible and dramatic, it was a relief and I knew the band could continue.”
Lee rejected “the Christian thing” in the interview, “I'm so over it. It's the lamest thing. I fought that from the beginning; I never wanted to be associated with it. It was a Ben thing. It's over. It's a new day.”'' |

''Amy Lee cites guitarist's impact on new Evanescence album
Evanescence got a shock last November when guitarist Terry Balsamo suffered a stroke during the recording sessions for the band's upcoming album, The Open Door. Singer Amy Lee told us that Balsamo has played an integral role in the group ever since joining three years ago: "I don't think this record would sound like it does if it wasn't for Terry. We just play off each other really well. I trusted him already, and we really connect and like each other as friends a lot. I felt like we're really alike in the first place, so I wasn't trying to be somebody in order to play with him. Writing was easy, and in addition, like, as a writer and as a collaborator, he's just really creative, like, it felt like we were creating a whole new sound."'' ► Read More

''Evanescence`s more relaxed and ready to hit the road By Mitchell Peters Sep 11, 2006, 21:53 GMT
A couple of years have passed since Evanescence toured the globe in support of its multiplatinum 2003 debut, 'Fallen,' and the band is eagerly awaiting round two.
'They`re very excited to get the [new] music out there and have a chance to play it,' says manager Andy Lurie of 110 Management.
The rockers haven`t long to wait; another worldwide trek is in the works. This time around Evanescence will take a slightly different, more relaxed approach to global domination. "They intend to tour smart this time," Lurie says. "I think they suffered from a little burnout last time because they didn`t build in any reasonable breaks. They pretty much toured nonstop for up to 18 months."
Seventy concerts reported to Billboard Boxscore between Feb. 25, 2003, and Aug. 14, 2004, show that Evanescence pulled in $8.6 million. Twenty-three of those gigs were sellouts.
Two days after 'The Open Door' hits stores Oct. 3 via Wind-up Records, Evanescence will embark on the first leg of its jaunt, playing 17 dates in 1,200- to 3,300-capacity venues across the United States and Canada. Tickets range from $25 to $35, and New York-based band Revelation Theory supports on all dates. The idea was to start off light and give Evanescence`s "core crowd" a chance to see the band up close and personal. "This is sort of their way of thanking fans for being so patient," Lurie says.'' ►Read More |

''EVANESCENCE Singer Says Her Music Makes People Feel Like They're Not Alone - Sep. 9, 2006
World Entertainment News Network reports EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee accept her lyrics can be dark and depressing at times — but she has learned they actually help save lives too. Lee hopes her songs about loneliness and desperation help troubled fans realize they're not the only ones going through difficult times — she's been there too.
But now Lee has a more upbeat view of life, she's thrilled to hear suicidal fans have chosen life over death after listening to her songs.
She explains, "I'm all about making people feel like they're not alone. One fan told me they were seriously contemplating suicide, but that night they were playing our album, something pulled them back from the edge. I know how it feels to be completely alone and helpless, and the last thing you want to hear in that situation is, 'It's going to be OK.' The only thing that seems to really help is that someone else who has felt that low expressing those feelings to you."
EVANESCENCE's new album, "The Open Door", arrives on October 3. The disc follows the band's 2003 major label debut, "Fallen", which has sold more than six million copies in the U.S.
The group recently recruited THE REVOLUTION SMILE bassist Tim McCord to replace Will Boyd, who left earlier this summer because he no longer wished to tour for lengthy amounts of time.'' |

''Evanescence 'Open Door' to the Stage
Evanescence hit the road Oct. 5 in Toronto for a brief seventeen-date tour in support of the forthcoming 'The Open Door' album. Frontwoman Amy Lee tells AOL Music the new material is road ready. "When we were in the studio we were constantly writing songs and we were going, 'Oh, that's going to be so great live,'" she says.
The band was able to write with the idea of what the songs would sound like in front of an arena full of frenzied fans this time because of their experiences supporting 'Fallen.' "We didn't play a lot of shows before 'Fallen' came out or anything. But now that we know what live is like before thousands of people you sort of write that way," she says. "You write a few songs that are sort of for the arena."
With that in mind, are there any songs from the album she's most looking forward to doing live? "The whole album," she says excitedly. "We're going to have so much to choose from between the two albums that it's going to be hard to keep it within a reasonable time limit."'' |

''Evanescence handles alcohol problems to open new doors
Sony are soon to release a new single (September 25th) and album (October 1st) for their goth metal success formula Evanescence. The single, "Call Me When You're Sober", is taken from their forthcoming new album "The Open Door" and will be available in 3 formats: MCD, CDS and 7". The 4 track maxi will include three versions of the title track (including the video) plus a 'making of' video clip. The 2-track CDS will include the album and acoustic versions of the title track just like the 2-track 7" vinyl. So far the singles. ''Evanescence Feeling No Pressure On New Album August 28, 2006, 10:40 AM ET | Gary Graff, Detroit
After selling nearly 14 million copies worldwide of its 2003 debut, "Fallen," and winning two Grammy Awards, Evanescence knows there are great expectations for its new album, "The Open Door," which comes out on Oct. 3. But frontwoman Amy Lee insists she's not paying much heed to external pressure.
"I just haven't ever looked at it that way," Lee tells Billboard.com. "'Fallen' is a great record [but] I don't think you can match the success of another body of work. I think that's only going to frustrate you. My only goal making this one was making something that I love even more and that I think is an even better record, and we've definitely done that."
Evanescence recorded "The Open Door" beginning late last year in Los Angeles. Producer Dave Fortman returned for the sophomore set, which also incorporates a string section and a choir. "Call Me When You're Sober," inspired by the end of Lee's relationship with Seether frontman Shaun Morgan, is the first single, while the song "Lacrymosa" is based on the section of the same name from Mozart's "Requiem."
"I think you can hear the growth," says Lee, who acknowledges that her lyrics are mostly about "what was going on at the time" in her life. "All the experimenting and fun stuff that we tried comes across, I think."
It wasn't an easy process, however. Guitarist Terry Balsamo suffered a stroke last October, and even though Lee says he returned to the studio immediately after his release from the hospital, he's been convalescing and doing physical therapy ever since.
"It's been a ton of hard work for him," she says. "We're at rehearsals now and he's playing and it's so great to have him back. But it's a step-by-step process for him."
Evanescence begins a 17-date small-venue tour to promote "The Open Door" on Oct. 5 in Toronto. A more extensive outing is expected to follow.'' |
